                    <dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract">Existing geocasting algorithms for VANETs provide either high availability or security, but fail to achieve both together. Most of the privacy preserving algorithms for VANETs have low availability and involve high communication and computation overheads. The reliable protocols do not guarantee secrecy and privacy. We propose a secure, privacy-preserving geocasting algorithm for VANETs, which uses direction-based dissemination. Privacy and security are achieved using public key encryption and authentication and pseudonyms. To reduce communication overheads resulting from duplication of messages, we adapt a transmission-coverage algorithm used in mobile sensor networks, where nodes delay forwarding messages based on its uncovered transmission perimeter after neighbouring nodes have broadcast the message.
