                    <dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract">This study presents a geospatial analysis of gamma radiation levels in alluvial soils of the Kolubara River basin (Western Serbia), comparing surface (20 cm) and subsurface (50 cm) layers. Ten sampling sites with the highest gamma dose rates at each depth were identified. Most values correspond to natural background radiation, though isolated peaks above 0.30 µSv/h indicate localized radiological anomalies. Elevated surface readings were mainly found near the Ljig, Tamnava, Ub, and Obnica rivers, likely due to a mix of natural lithology and anthropogenic factors. In contrast, the highest subsurface values appear to stem solely from geological sources, with no evidence of surface-derived contamination. Spatial differences between layers are site-specific and do not suggest a broader regional trend. Overall, the Kolubara basin’s alluvial soils show a relatively uniform radiological profile to 50 cm depth, with elevated zones linked to discrete natural conditions or localized pollution sources.</dim:field>
