<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract">Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly entering the all areas of human functioning, including very specific domain of mental health, offering an innovative approach to diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders. The aim of this paper is to investigate the current application of AI in psychotherapy. Also to identify advantages and challenges, and consider ethical aspects and future directions of it’s development and progression. On a sample of 100 adults, of which 26 go to one of the three most dominant and current directions of psychotherapy today – CBT, Psychoanalysis and Gestal, attitudes towards the use of AI in the Psychotherapeutic environment and counseling were examined. Non-parametric techniques were aplied: Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis in order to determine the differences in scores between several groups of respondents. Data were processed with SPSS, version 26. The results have shown that, in general, people have a positive attitude towards the application of artificial intelligence in psychotherapy and counseling. Further analysis have indicated that this applies especially to younger people, and those who are receiving psychotherapy from the CBT modality. It can be concluded that AI cannot completely replace human interaction in psychotherapy and psychology, but its application should be seen as an additional tool which can significantly improve access to mental health.</dim:field>
