The activities lasted until the break up of the USSR in 1991. Exploration resumed at the beginning of the 21st century and was generally conducted by Western companies to detect mineral ore deposits. The paper focuses on testing of radioactive phosphate-bearing anomalies uncovered during Soviet investigations, which were confirmed and analyzed in detail in 2011.
