<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract">Soviet and Mongolian geologists initiated geological exploration of Mongolia after World War II. The activities lasted until the break up of the USSR in 1991. Exploration resumed at the beginning of the 21st century and was generally conducted by Western companies to detect mineral ore deposits. The paper focuses on testing of radioactive phosphate-bearing anomalies uncovered during Soviet investigations, which were confirmed and analyzed in detail in 2011. Uranium exploration was undertaken across Mongolia, but the paper discusses only those north of the town of Sainshand, in the southeastern part of the country.</dim:field>
