                    <dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract">Stara Planina Mt. covers the eastern parts of the Republic of Serbia and western parts of the Republic of Bulgaria. It is distinguished by its complex geology represented by Paleozoic granite intrusions, gabroid rocks, resedimented sedimentary complexes of Permian and Early Triassic age, as well as by Mesozoic limestones. Specific and characteristic features of these units should be preserved as objects of geoheritage. Localities such as Babin Zub, canyon of the river Temštica and incised meanders of Vladikina ploča are already well-known. Besides these, there are numerous other localities which are less known, but according to their specific features and beauty, they also represent geological objects of extreme importance (the area of Arbinje, more than 60 waterfalls, Rosomački Lonci, bioturbated strata, cross-bedding, Ponor, etc.). Occurrences of radioactivity have also been reported from both Serbia and Bulgaria. This bordering mountain fully deserves to become a geopark and the first step toward this goal is to establish Serbia-Bulgaria cross-border cooperation.</dim:field>
