                    <dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract">Uranium has been increasingly explored since it was discovered in 1789 by the German chemist Martin Klaproth. Uranium was originally used in the glass and ceramic industry. Later, when its radioactive properties were uncovered, and especially after the first controlled nuclear reaction, it became important for nuclear armaments. Ultimately, after World War II, it became a significant nuclear energy resource. In Serbia, uranium exploration began in the 1950s, flourished in the 1960s and 1970s, and was reduced to a minimum after 1990. The paper summarizes the history of uranium exploration in Serbia.</dim:field>
