Stress accompanies every sports competition [1]. Basketball competitions in particular are very stressful because of the changeable and unpredictable situations that require selective, well-focused and flexible attention, fast information processing and decision making – factors that often influence final result of the game. The aim of this study was to:
-	Identify the most stressful competitive situations in basketball;
-	Determine whether younger players perceive some competitive situations as significantly more stressful than older players
-	Determine whether more experienced basketball players differ from less experienced ones in level of perceived stressfulness of competitive situations
-	Determine whether there are gender differences in perception of stressfulness of competitive situations.
 Method. A sample of 508 Serbian basketball players (439 males and 69 females) participated in the research. Their ages ranged from 13 to 31 years. Participants ranged in sports experience between 1 and 22 years. The average age of subjects was 15.7 years.
  Results

SSBQ showed high reliability (Cronbach’s alpha= .91). Young players perceived 16 situations as more stressful comparing to older ones. There are significant differences in five situations between young and adult players, while there are significant differences in eight situations between less and more experienced players.Female players perceived all 20 situations as more stressful compared to male players. Fifteen of these situations were perceived as significantly more stressful by the female players. Conclusion.
Coaches who work with girls, young and less experienced players could use these findings as a useful information for organizing and conceiving their professional and pedagogical work in order to make competitive situations less stressful for these categories of players. Sport competitions should not be a source of stress, frustrations and dissatisfaction that could lead to dropping out of sport. On the contrary, they should be an opportunity for learning, acquiring new experiences, fun, psychological coping skills development, growth of self-esteem and strengthening intrinsic motivation.</dim:field>
