<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract">The problem of counterfeiting of payment cards represents a significant issue for the banks. So far the attackers has successfully forged cards with a magnetic strip while no chip card is counterfeit yet. On magnetic stripe cards the Personal Identification Number - PIN value is not successfully reconstructed, so that the use of counterfeit cards is limited, while on the card with the attackers try programming the chip to give an affirmative answer to every request. The goal of this paper is to show that it is possible to discover the PIN value from the data on the magnetic stripe and thus also compromise the chip itself if it is a card with a chip. Taking into account the results of this work the bank would become aware of the vulnerability of cards and discuss new methods of protection.</dim:field>
