<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract">For a tourist destination to be sustainable, it is essential that it protects natural resources, respects local culture and community, promotes economic development, utilises sustainable infrastructure and transportation, and manages the number of tourists (Milošević Đorđević et al., 2025). The concepts and tools for achieving a sustainable tourist destination are ecotourism, clean production, Environmental Management System (EMS), eco-labelling, and the carrying capacity of the tourist destination (Schianetz et al., 2007:374; Suchera & Arulappan, 2020; Bučar et al., 2022; Milojković & Eker, 2023; Milojković et al., 2023)........ By balancing the elements: the protection of natural resources, respecting local culture and community, fostering economic development, using sustainable infrastructure and transport, and effectively managing tourist flows, a tourist destination can maintain its attractiveness and competitiveness in the long term without jeopardizing its future.
Accordingly, it is recommended to strengthen nature protection measures through biodiversity monitoring, pollution control, and responsible resource management, and to integrate the community into decision-making and promote activities that preserve cultural identity. In addition, measures such as supporting the local economy by developing green jobs, using local products and services, and evenly distributing tourism revenues are highly proposed. Implementing measures related to investments in sustainable infrastructure, such as energy-efficient facilities, waste management systems, and clean forms of transport, implementing tourist management strategies such as visitor limits, reservation systems, and off-peak promotion to reduce pressure on sensitive areas are recommended. With these measures, destinations can ensure long-term sustainability, a quality experience for tourists and a better quality of life for residents.</dim:field>
