<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract">In modern society, stress signifi cantly aff ects people’s physical and mental well-being,
especially in urban tourist destinations where factors like pollution, overcrowding, and social
inequality impact health Engaging in sports and recreational activities can counteract these
negative eff ects, improving various aspects of health, such as physical fi tness, mental well-being,
cognitive function, and social interaction (Angelucci, F., 2024). Tourism, particularly sports and
recreational tourism, is increasingly recognized as a key avenue for meeting the need for health,
with studies highlighting its positive eff ects on both individual well-being and local economies.
Sports tourism not only promotes physical health but also fosters social cohesion, environmental
awareness, and economic development. Novi Sad, a city with rich natural and cultural resources, is
a prime candidate for developing sports and recreational tourism off erings. However, research
reveals insuffi cient sports infrastructure, such as recreational areas, walking and cycling paths,
and sports facilities, limiting the city’s potential. Existing resources, such as SPENS, Kopački rit,
and the Danube cycling paths, off er opportunities to develop sports tourism, yet they remain
underutilized. Events like the Novi Sad Marathon help promote the city’s sports tourism potential,
but further investment in sports infrastructure and promotion is needed. By developing such
infrastructure and expanding accommodation services, Novi Sad can enhance its appeal as a
sustainable tourist destination, contributing to its economic growth and the overall development of
the tourism sector.</dim:field>
